Viruses enter our body through the mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, and eyes.
If our hands are dirty and we touch our face, we make it easier for viruses to enter our body.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE:
- Keep your hands busy: Holding a stress ball or other objects reduces the number of times we touch our face. Of course, remember to clean and disinfect these objects regularly.
- Identify what triggers you to touch your face: Take a moment during the day to recognize compulsive behaviors. Once you are aware of when and why you touch your face, addressing the root cause can be an effective solution.
- Example: If you notice you rub your eyes because they are dry, use eye drops to moisturize them.
- Keep tissues handy: When you feel the urge to scratch an itch, rub your nose, or adjust your glasses, use a tissue instead of your fingers.
- Relax: Our general recommendation is to reduce stress rather than obsessively worrying about what you touch. Stress affects the immune system — the more stressed we are, the less capable our body is of fighting infections.
