Pet Care at Home: Tips and Recommendations

Caring for a pet at home is a huge responsibility, especially in the new normal caused by COVID-19, but the happiness they bring makes every effort worthwhile. At Mendebal, we want to share the best tips to ensure your pet enjoys a happy life at home.

Adopting or buying a pet is a dream for many children (and adults), but when a new animal joins your home, you need to have a few preparations ready to give them the warmest welcome and establish routines that benefit their health.

FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO CARE FOR YOUR PETS

ANTICIPATE THEIR ARRIVAL
For dogs and cats, which are the most common pets, make sure you have a bed, food bowl, and water bowl ready. If you have a dog, get a collar and leash for walks; if you have a cat, provide a litter box. Don’t forget a hygiene kit with brushes, nail clippers, and wipes to keep them clean and comfortable.

HYGIENE AND BRUSHING FIRST
To care for your pet, bathe them at least once a month, or more often if needed. Brush them daily, trim their nails (if they don’t naturally wear them down), and clean their ears with the right products. These tasks are part of your role as a responsible pet owner—don’t skip them!

RESEARCH THEIR PROPER DIET
Many people give pets human food or leftovers. While it’s a personal choice, some foods should be avoided, such as chocolate, onion, and avocado. If you want to play it safe, a good quality pet food with the right nutrients is always the best option.

DON’T SKIP DAILY WALKS OR EXERCISE
If you have a dog, take them for a walk every day to ensure they get enough exercise. Cats usually roam on their own, but if yours stays indoors, play with them and encourage physical activity to keep them healthy and fit.

By following these tips, you’ll be a great pet caregiver. And remember, pets are part of your family, so always give them love and quality time whenever you can. After all, they are an important part of the #MendebalFamily.
